The Milwaukee County

Long before stadiums had corporate names with as much charm as stale popcorn, they were named after men and locations. Sure the names may have been just as corporate but I'll take Briggs and Comiskey over Comerica and US Cellular any day. These cathedrals were meeting places, a spot to spend an afternoon cheering for the home team. They're all gone now but the memories that took place within their walls still remain, even if now home plate is a parking lot and left field is a mall.

MIlwaukee County Stadium was home to three teams over its 47 years (the White Sox played there part-time in 1968 and 1969 in an effort to bring baseball back to the city). Milwaukee County Stadium was the first stadium to grace the cover of Sports Illustrated, landing on the cover of the inaugural issue. Hank Aaron may not have hit his first home run here (it was in St. Louis) but he hit his last one here. Pair that with Bernie's chalet and beer mug and there's no doubt this was a cathedral.
